When will it work?????????

I have been dong pat/ssh with my ds since he was a couple of weeks old (he's now 14wks) and over the last month or so he's been doing the whole 45 in nap thing.  I've been doing the "wake to sleep" thing, going in a few min before and resettling him before he has a chance to wake up.
My question is this ... When will it work?  Isn't the whole point that you need to do it for a few days and then he will start to settle himself or learn how to go from one sleep cycle to the next.  It seems like I'm doing all this hard work and we're not getting anywhere?  Am I doing something wrong?   :?

for us, the 4 month/16 week mark was a big turning point.  i, too, was spending what seemed like FOREVER doing pat/shh, etc.  he finally started to get it, and by 5 months i pretty much wasn't doing it anymore.

Thanks Jaime, sometimes it seems like there's no light at the end of the tunnel!  All we can do is hang in there I guess and hope for the best!   :roll:
