She won´t have her formula!!!
« on: November 11, 2005, 15:26:20 pm »
Hi there... today I am really stressed out and sad a lot. My dd does not want to eat at all!!!! It doesn´t seems like teething cause she has no red gums. Just when I show her bottle and put it in her mouth she starts crying and arches back and pushes back. I.ve checked out for disphagia too... and its not that. This is the fifth milk change cause of the same and its been a month since the last change. She is on solids and have no problem with that, but milk is like a nightmare for both of us. Can it be again reflux? She is having the anti refluz milk and is on reflux meds, but she is no longer vomiting. Or what is it she doesn´t seem interested in eating. Yesterday she just had 3 to 4 ounces every 4 hours and she slept great 2 hours naps and catnap and 10 hours in the night so I do not know what to do now. What is the matter? She is not rolling or sitting or having any milestone... can any one give an advice or a hint. I love her so much that I really hate when she cries like that not wanting her bottle... anyone please?

Our lo used to take small feeds until one day when out shopping we needed to use a readymade SMA gold.  She guzzled it and have not looked back since then.  I rang the careline and they said it is slighlty sweeter and blended better because of the UHT treatment.  I don't know if this is of any help but it has worked great for us.  A little more expensive but she is worth every penny.

I am having the same exact problem with my 7 month old.  She had reflux when she was younger and she isn't arching her back or crying, she just doesn't want her bottle.  She loves her solids and we try and mix the formula in her food to get it in her but we have tried 4 different kinds of formula, different bottles, different nipples and she doesn't want to eat.  Just not interested.

What is SMA Gold?  Who is it made by?  Is it Similac?

I just try SMA Gold and she had her milk, but it was no that easy, she still refuses it. I hope that with more time she takes it better. SMA Gold is a formula from Wyett Nutritional Laboratories. Your 7 month should use Promil Gold as he is more than 6 months, but it is the same lab. I do not know what Similac is. So I am trying a little longer and see what it happens maybe she doesn´t want the thickened formula anymore. She has not been vomiting at all for 1 month now so we´ll see.

I don't think we have that formula in New Jersey.  I have to look into it.

Thanks for the help.  Good luck!

Have you tired giving the milk after the solids? Mine was not a huge fan of milk. for a time I struggled to get her to eat 4oz; the arching, the crying etc........ So I gave a bit before solids, a bit after ( that worked for me) and then another bottle just before her naps (about 1.5 hours after her meal) so I managed to get some milk into her.  7 months now and we have it sorted.

We had a similar problem with our DS.  He wouldn't take formula at all!  We mixed the formula with some EBM, which he took, but no more than 2 oz at a time.  We had to switch formula brands 3x until we finally tried Similac Advance (our DS is 6 1/2 months old).  The first day he had the Similac, he drank 5 oz - no fussing, no spitting, no problem!  I've spoken to many other mothers and they experienced the same thing when they tried the Similac brand with their babies.  Hope that helps!  Good luck.

Hi... thank you for your replies... there is no Similac here, I am trying a new brand, but still refussing... I´ve tried her formula before, after, between (all the prepositions) her solids with no results... maybe its a no hunger period before a growing spurt (hope so) or maybe she really isn´t hungry after 4 hours or maybe she doesn´t want to suck at all... Hope this new thing goes away soon cause it is very devastating... she used to have 7 oz. 2 months before and now I am begging for 4 oz. It has been 3 terrible days, but she is sleeping the whole night plus it has been 2 days since she is taking 2 to 2.25 hours of nap and a 45 min catnap, so I guess its one for another... I don´t know, but its less stressing her not having naps rather than her not eating... sometimes she doesnı even want the solids... she is happy all the time but when is eating time... really hoping to pass this...  By the way what is EBM? We´ve trien Enfamil, Enfamil AR, Enfamil HA, Nan, Nan AR (Nestle brand), and now SMA Gold...  I´ll keep on trying...
