When to start table food & meats
« on: November 11, 2005, 17:40:49 pm »
I have just been giving my daughter home-made baby food (fruits & veggies) & a few finger foods.  She is now 9 months old & i heard that i should start giving her table food & meats.  But then some suggest to wait until 1 year to give meats.  Just wondering what others have done.

Lindsey's ped said it was ok to start pureed meat baby food at 6 months.  But it was so nasty by itself she would not eat it.  So, I mixed it with applesauce or pears and she would eat it.  At 9 months though she may not like the pureed meats.  How is she doing with chewing?  You could try some tender very small peices of chicken if she is ok with actual chewing and moving food around in her mouth.  I will post a link from baby center too that may help.

Hmmmm.....I started Zoe on solids at 4 months (should have waited with her, though ds took them like a dream).   She never really took a lot of pureed foods from me.  Once and a while I'd get her to take a full 1-2oz serving.  I started to give her more finger foods - and WOW!!!!  Could she eat!!!!!  She has been on all "table foods" since 8 months, including meat  :D  It's wonderful too as she's always fed herself  :D

i guess i've been a little hesitant to start table foods because she has had a lot of trouble in the past with formula.  She has been chewing pretty good but only has one tooth.  :)  i will try more finger foods & a little table foods & see how it goes.
thanks!

My Taryn is almost 10 months old and I have not given her "table foods" or meat yet.  I am contemplating going vegetarian but we'll see.  We just had a bit of brown rice for supper tonight mixed with some kale but that didn't go very well so we'll try try again.  What I have decided, since I have been very hesitant about trying new foods with her, is that we will go at whatever pace is comfortable for us.  If she shows signs of wanting more of a challenge sooner then I will give it to her but for now we try one or two new things (usually fruit and veg) per week and are building up to table foods...here's hoping that she takes to jalepenos!!!
