I have tried to dreamfeed dd twice now, first time took 2 ounces and second she woke up, still took some milk and went back to sleep but wondering if anyone who has done it has managed to get baby to take a reaonable amount, should I keep trying?

I honestly never liked the df.  I tried it for a few weeks with my DS (2.5 years ago) and he never took to it and I've never even attempted it with my DD (2.5 mos.) and they both did fine without it.  I personally found it to be more of a bother/disruption than anything-and my DD is already starting to sleep 10-12 hours at night without it.  Some people really swear by it, but it never worked for me.  Just my 2 cents!

My twins do really well with it.  The amount they take varies but it's usually a full feed or close to it, now that we've been doing it for a few weeks.

thanks for the opinions

sarah o - did your twins work up to a full feed with the DF, I am happy to carry on if it's likely to build up but seems silly staying up late for the sake of a couple of ounces

i've never been able to get it to work either, but many who were able to do it said it could take up to 2 weeks for them to take a full feed.

just more ideas.

Hi ,

It took Alana a good 4 weeks or so to take more than an ounce or two.
Since then she has always taken 7oz.

She is still having it now and sleeps through until 7am without a feed and has done since 10wks old, so I would definately recommend you keep at it.

thankyou for the encouragement I will continue to do the df and hope it builds up, today she has already had 22ounces and is now asleep (7pm) she normally manages about 22-25ounces in 24 hours so I am hoping for a dream feed to finish her off she has never taken that amount by bedtime before

That's awesome!!  I didn't answer your question before...yes, we worked up to the full feed at the DF.  At first they'd only take a couple of ounces but now it's up to 5-6 oz.

What time do you do the DF at? I do mine at around 10pm then he sleeps till 4 or 5. Eats then awakes for the day around 7 or 8. When do you think I should wein him from his 4-5 feed. He is 9weeks old and I am BF so I never know how much he gets?!
