breast feeding
« on: November 14, 2005, 17:02:06 pm »
I have a 4 & half week son, who feeds at 7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 7pm. I put him to bed at 7 & then he wakes up for a feed at 10pm, 1am & 4am.I want to know if this is normal.
My baby tends to feed vigorously for about 5 mins then he slows down and then stays on the breast for another 10 mins but falling asleep in between.  Is this normal and finally how can you tell when a breast is empty?

That sounds pretty normal for 4 weeks old.

Your breast will never be completely empty, you will only hear less frequent swallowing. More of a suck, suck, suck, suck, suck swallow instead of the suck/swallow pattern.
