7 week old - 3 naps a day?
« on: November 15, 2005, 00:11:05 am »
According to the typical hours of sleep chart, my 7 week old should have the following amount of sleep:

Night: 8.75 hours;
Day: 7.75 hours - 3 naps, 2.25 hours each;
Total: 15.5 hours

What constitutes daytime sleep and what constitutes nighttime sleep?  If I'm feeding him 7-8 times a day and following the EASY plan, that means he has 6-7 segments of sleep each day.  How does that break down into 3 naps and 8.75 hours of nighttime sleep? Which segments of sleep are considered naps and which ones are considered nighttim sleep?

think of it as 12 hour blocks (6/7am - 6/7pm for example = daytime as most infants and toddlers work on a 12 hr "day" and 7pm - 7am = night sleep time) the times vary on households - some people want later bedtimes so work 8/9am - 8/9pm etc...

obviously all figures given are averages - some children nap more than others and do less overnight sleep, others will nap maybe 3 hrs a day and then sleep 12 hrs at night etc.
