Travelling-time differences-effect on supply?
« on: November 21, 2005, 19:10:59 pm »
Hello!
My DD is 6 mo. old and she has been EBF. She BF 4 times during the day (7-11-3-6:30) and eats 2 solid meals (we started solids about 4 weeks ago.) We live in the US and will be going on a trip to see family in Europe for a month (DD will be 8 mo. old at that time.) There is a 12-hour time difference between where we live and where we’ll be visiting. I was wondering if anybody knows if this time difference is going to have any effect on my milk supply? DD has been sleeping through the night since she was about 4 mo. old, so I don’t know what my body is going to do when she will be eating at “nighttime” all of a sudden. Does anybody have any experience with this? Thanks!
Ankie

Hmm, I think your supply will not be affected. However, you may feel a little uncomfortable during the night there as this is when you nurse but I don't think it will be more than a day or so. Human breast is an amazing thing, it can produce as much milk as is needed and at the time it is needed. I haven't been in your situation but I would assume your body will understand the difference and will switch to a new time. The only problem you may have is putting your dd to sleep at different time but she should be able to adjust pretty soon to new time. You will be fine!

Thank you Monika! I certainly hope you are right! I agree with you about how amazing the human body can be. I am just scared the time difference creates a little too drastic of a change. But I will keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. DD doesn't want to take a bottle, so I don't have a back up way to feed her milk....
