13month old screaming
« on: November 22, 2005, 16:01:51 pm »
hello,
my ds who is 13 months 2 days old has just been back from a 15 day holiday from his grandparents house....funnily he dint have any sleep issues there...he just settled down iasily considering the time lapse of 5.5 hours(forwards)...but when we came back its a different story..he is very scared of his cot bed...scared of his room...screams at naptimes...i eventually sit at the cotside till he drifts off and sneak out like a cat...at nights we r soo tired we get him into our bed...just 2 days now sincw we came back...but since it will build up a pattern we need to get him out of this screaming habit...maybe his teeth are coming in? whatever the reason,he just dosent settle untill he is next to us...i have no clue what to do...i have tried walking in/walk out method...worked ok for naps but dont know if it will work at nights....
he uses a dummy but sometimes even that dosent settle him down.
i know i should give it time ...what i need to know is anyone out there who has gone and come back from a holiday to this kind of a problem,if so what did u do/? any advice much appreciated....
we follow a good routine but now wakes up around 5:00-5:30
please advice
thank u

I don't have any real personal experience of this, but I would say it's a bit of seperation anxiety.
Have you asked grandparents how he went to sleep there?Ask them to be honset as well, they may have cuddled him to sleep every night.
I think it's time to do some PU/PD or PD depending on your back!
If you start now then it should settle down quite easily. Also lo could be slightly jet lagged and may take a few days to settle in.
Also may be worth speaking to your health visitor to see if they have any ideas.Have you tried Calpol OR Medised in case it's the teeth.
Medised is great to use for a couple of nights to get back into a sleep pattern.
(probably get lynched for saying that  )

Good luck.HTH
