Well, Liv woke up at exactly 2.5 hr, just as I was going in to wake her up. THanks for all the advice to wake her up; I know I should, but my best friend always says, "Wake her up, are you crazy?!?!?" (She has 2 kids and never did BW...now her kids are 7 and 9. I don't know how she made it! I don't know why I listen to her, there's SO much about her parenitng that I don't agree with, but sometimes you just need someone to confirm your thoughts, KWIM?)

Hayley--Liv usually goes to bed around 7:30 and typically sleeps till 7:30 a.m. (Dreamfeed at 11, but we're getting ready to drop that.) She did start doing a 6:30 wakeup last week. She would just be awake and talking and rolling around. Since she wasn't crying, I just let her stay in her crib until about 7:30. After about a week, she started going back to sleep. Now she skips the 6:30 wakeup. This morning, she did wake up at 7, when DHs alarm went off, but she fell back to sleep and slept until 8:00.

Lisa--that's funny about DH. My DH couldn't cut the cord either. He's pretty squeamish. He hates that I watch Law & Order and CSI. He can't watch them. I'll have to tell him about your hubby...his friends gave him a hard time.

Liv has a rash on her back and under her chin. She's had it about a month. I showed the doctor at her last visit, and she said it's dry/sensitive skin. We switched detergents and bath wash and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!! But it doesn't seem to be helping. It's actually worse under her chin. And she's started scratching at a spot on the back of her neck. I wonder if it's eczema, but the doc didn't say anything about that. Has anyone else run into this problem? Does anyone know of anything that helps?

LOL Nikki about the April fools baby.  My birthday is April 2nd and my mom always used to include a clause in my birth story about how she "held me in" until after midnight on the first. Hee hee.  I would gladly take April 1 as Sophie's birthday if I could have had your delivery.  Sounds wonderful.  We considered renting a tub/pool but decided not to at the last minute.  It was really helpful though eh?

Traci I completely think you have the right idea about letting dh customize his approach (within your comfort zone of course) I do think that babies know the difference between mom and dad and I think they can learn to go to sleep with two or more slightly different methods/sets of cues.  Ultimately, as I have said before, if we want help from our dh's I think we have to relinquish some control, IMHO. My dh wants to be an equal parent but feels very self-conscious and insecure when I "hover".  He has his own instincts and although there are definately times that I think they are wrong, or mostly I am concerned because they are not bw, or I think Sophie will be confused becasue they are not the same as me, they are his instincts and I have to respect them at least a little :) These lo's are going to have to make their won realtionships with their fathers at some point right?  Can you tell I think about this subject a lot?!

Thanks for the sock input.  I forgot we have some triple roll socks from the gap that work well.  I think I'll try old navy...a little cheaper but I think basically the same style.

And yet another question for you ladies.  Brendan's 7th bday is coming up.  We are having a little family party at our house since he lives with his mom a little ways from here we don't do a friends party (she always does one for him).  So, IL's are comin' over!!  But anyhow, anyone have any cute (AND easy) cake/cupcake ideas that would be cute for a 7 yr. old boy but still tasty for adults?  Is that possible?

Nancy, we've got eczema over here too.  Just a few spots.  I have found that aquaphor is helping a lot.  Make sure you get her right after the bath, before she is completely dry.  HTH.
BTW...Naomi...missing you, but glad work is going well. You GO girl!

TTFN,
Hannah

Sorry...one more thing.  After reading lal of the labor stories and hearing how many of you ladies actually put on make up etc...just totally reminded me of one of my sister's fav. sayings (she uses it all the time when I complain about the lengths she goes to to look great) "Beauty is pain sweetie, beauty is pain."
I think blow drying your hair between contractions is one of the best illustrations of that statement I've ever heard :)

Hannah, thanks for the tip. We have a sample of Equaphor the doc gave us (along with a bag of other moisturizers). I'll give it a try. And I think you're right about letting DH create their own "style." I've had to learn to just go to another part of the house when DH is trying to settle Liv (or stay in bed and turn the monitor off). If he tries everything and still can't settle her, he'll come get me when he needs me (rarely happens). It seems to be working for us. But it is hard to relinquish "control" at least it is for me.

hi there girls, work is going good, but it sucks at around 3pm as my brain shuts down and I can't seem to take anthing in. We were stugying air fares today, basically how to book the flight and make sure the customer gets the right info and flights etc.
I will try to make the chat tonight, if not tonite then definitly on friday...can't miss a chat with my girls.
Well my birth with Jay was pretty straight forward, I went in at 12noon at 3 cm, felt like I was crowning tho, got the epidural...mmmm.
I had to push for an hour with him, felt like I was going to split in two, as he was 9lb 4oz. Riley was fast and furious, I went in at 2:45pm at 6cm, was very proud of myself, was looking forward to the drugs anda nice suppertime delivery......well......20mins later, while the nurses were trying to put the IV in, the room wasn't even set up yet, my water broke, and she crowned with it. So thre pushes and she was out, they didnt even have time to get any kind of drugs. It especially scared me as at 34weeks they told me I carried GBS, so I was nervous as I hadn't had any of the medication she needed. She was perfect tho.
k...my chance to brag....did any1 see that Ri has started to take steps when we hold her hands, she started that on monday, and janean says she gets some practice in each day.
Righty ho dahlings....I am off for some Q time with my kids....check ya later...this is the first night I have had no work to bring home...yipee!!!!

Good night, you've been busy ladies!  I've been trying to catch up all day in between some crazy sleep issues.

So many funny things in the last few days.  My favorite, though, was Cathy or Roz's quote, "Well then stop trying to kill him, you idiots!"
Congrats to Miss Riley on her walking!  Ryan figured out how to pull himself up in the crib, so it's bye bye bumper.

I heard about BW through my best friend from college.  She actually got me the first 2 books for free through her sister.   :D   I also read Happiest Baby on the Block and Healthy Sleep Habits. This seemed to work best, although all three are really similar.  My friend mentioned that there was a website, not that she ever posted or anything.  So, I checked it out and lurked for a long time before joining and lurked some more before posting and here I am.

My birth story was pretty good, I'd say.  My water broke at 4:30 pm while I was at work.  This was 11 days early.  But, I wasn't sure if it was really broken (  duh!  But, I did all the tests we learned about and nothing else happened), but just in case I stayed another hour and cleaned up and left sub plans.    I had a friend over for Thursday night TV (we always do this) and since I had the scare, I spent the time making my packing list.  She took my picture at 9:30 or so, since I thought I looked HUGE.  When I got into bed at 10:30, I had the WORST, weirdest pain of my life.  No clue what it was.  (double duh!)  I hopped right out of bed saying, "Ow!  Ow!  Ow!"  Dh is following me around the house trying to figure out what was happening.  The contractions were coming really quickly and strongly (3-6 mins. apart)  I checked my notes from class  (total dork, I know) and it seemed this was the time to roll, so we started packing (thank goodness for the list, since I was not in a place to think!).  Got to the hospital just after midnight and I was already a few cms.  Got an epidural at 2:30 or so and slept a few hours 'til they checked me.  I was already at 7 cm by 6:30.  We called dh's family and told them to come at 10 or so, but luckily they didn't listen and were all there (in the waiting room) when I was told I could start pushing at 7:40 or so.  Ryan was born at 8:23 am, weighing 9 lbs. and measuring 21 1/2 inches.  Dh cut the cord and I got to hold him right after he came out.

Traci, thanks for the lists...I'll wait until the final one to start my addressing.  I don't need much excuse to procrastinate!   8)   Better run, little man is currently pulling himself up on the computer chair.  He woke just when I finished reading all 1784 pages and I wanted to post.

And, I haven't even told you about our hellish nights...must come back later, I guess.   :D

thank you for the compliments girls, Ri has no interest whatsoever in crawling. We put her on all fours and she just stays there, yet if you stand her and hold her, she bounces up and down and stamps her feet one at a time. It will probably be a while before she totally gets it, she gets sidetracked in the excitement and wants to clap when we clap.
Anyone elses lo sharging ahead in the food, I can barely keep up with her, today she had some canned diced peach pieces, last week she could barely chew on an arrowroot cookie. She gets fussy when we are eating and she is not.
OMG, now I have two bottomless pits to feed!!!!!
Is any1 sending pic in their cards, I have some nice cards I want to send, but I was wondering what you were all doing on the pic thing, the ones we just took don't come back till dec 8th.......any1mind if I wait till the new year to mail the pic seperately...that way you all get your cards and the pics won't get lost in the mail during the xmas rush either.

Real quick:  I'm sending a snapshot that we're getting printed at Sam's instead of professional shots.  We are even getting those taken until the 11th and 12th.

Naomi, saw that about Riley but forgot   Way to go, Riley!!!

Birth story- I was supposed to be induced the day before due date as Sam had stopped growing. Had the gel put in Fri night and went to sleep-nothing. More gel Saturday morning...still nothing. We were in hospital but walked to the park, had lunch and did couple things which was lovely! Saturday 4 pm, 2 cm and Sam's head was not engaged at all.  Waters broke at 4 pm and went from no contractions to 5 minutely contractions. I tried birthing pool, acupuncture and finally at 6 pm and at 6 cm, had an epidural. All went very smoothly from there and at 10.20 pm with the help of forceps and an episiotomy, Sam arrived!  The epidural rocked!! I wince when I think of some of you feeling stitches etc.

Naomi, am sending a small pic that we took. Printing out on PC as well.

Hayley, Sam goes 6.30-6 am straight through. We tried 7 but then got 5 am wakings. This seems to work for us.

Off for a walk, glorious day here!
