Later and later nap time
« on: November 26, 2005, 19:12:19 pm »
DS usually goes down for a nap around 12:45-1 pm, and falls asleep within 15 minutes, sometimes right away.  But in the last three days, he'll spend a good hour or more rolling around, talking, throwing things out of the crib, so he doesn't fall asleep until 2 or 2:30 pm.  Should I delay putting him into the crib?  I just don't want to put him in at 2 and have him rolling about until 3!  He'll sleep until 4:30 or so, and then bedtime is 7:30 pm.  That seems so close.  He's still waking up at usual time - around 7 am.  What would you mommies (and daddies) do?  Keep to the same nap time or put him down later?

One other thing, he just cut 2 new teeth, but they don't seem to be bothering him for nighttime sleep.  Could they be bothering him at naps?

I would try to wear him out and put him to bed for a nap about half an hour later. It's trial and error (with Emily anyway  )

Keep everything else the same but just a later naptime. This happened to us but then she went back to an earlier nap time of 12.30ish.
Could try to put something on gums in afternoon just in case those teeth are playing up a bit.

Yep, I 2nd Sarah's advice, the same thing happened here (only Nathan was a bit older), he is now back to his 12.30pm bedtime.  Try and keep things consistent, if he ends up having a no-nap day, try not to make a big deal of it (as in I tried not to bring attention to it) and just carried on the day as normal and put him to bed 1/2hr earlier than normal.  If Nathan was falling asleep late, I ended up waking him up by 4pm at the latest since his betime is 7pm, just so there was enough time for him to get tired again.

Thanks for the advice.  It went better today.  I think he was tired from the excitement of my taking out the Christmas decorations this morning. :)  I also dosed him with some Tylenol. :)
