ds on hunger strike!!
« on: November 29, 2005, 01:20:43 am »
Hello...

15mth ds is refusing to eat practically anything, he has always been a good eater,

about 2 wks ago he would only eat by himself and would get really upset if i tried to feed him, he was eating small amounts but at least he was eating,

5days ago his 1st molar came through and since then he wont eat a thing, i cant feel or see any of the others coming through,,,,he is not waking at night in pain

He will still have his am and bedtime milk and maybe some yoghurt and a small piece of banana and thats about it for the day

Is it just a phase? any suggestions?

Thanks

Ewan did this as well when he was getting his one year molars around the same time.  I just kept offering and if he was hungry he ate.  Hard not to worry (after all you are a mom  ) or stress out about it but he will not starve himself, I actually checked with my ped on this one.  Just be sure that you don't fall into the trap of offering "junky" types of foods jsut to get him to eat.  This too shall pass.

We went through the same thing with molars, and Tyler will still have days that he seems to survive on air. It all evens out eventually, so try not to worry!

Samismum, I am Soooo glad you posted this. I was about to post the same thing. I am highly stressed over here too. My daughter everything and tons of it. Now we are on our 4th day of nothing. I have tried all the favorites but it doesn't help. I am debating on whether to call the doctor. We already have three molars but maybe more are coming..... so you guys say to just wait it out? We don't have any fever over here.

How funny!
I just posted this exact question about 3 weeks ago.  Ds had all four first year molars coming in at once and he would only eat bannana, nutigrain bars, and maybe one other thing. His appetite was pitiful and if the food required chewing forget it.  But since they have come through eating has returned to normal and even better :D   I was so stressed about his food strike that I called my Mom in tears.  He is kinda picky in general so being even more picky threw me for a loop to say the least.  It will pass, hopefully soon.  Goodluck.  I think Lana suggested smoothies to me, maybe they will work for your lo.

hi again,,,

I was getting sooo stressed out yesterday about the lack of eating that i called my SIL (a dr at childrens hosp.)

She told me to try not too worry to much, she said at this age i should be monitoring his food intake over a week rather than daily and i would probably find that he is getting enough, she also mentioned molars seem to stop alot of toddlers from eating at this age and suggested smoothies aswell!!

I managed to get him to eat 1/2 cream cheese sandwich today and 1/2 a egg white  :D  :D ....hopefully this will continue,

its so hard not too worry and stressout,,,dh has to keep reminding me that if he is hunger he will eat!!!

Hi,

I just wanted to say that my DD went throught he same thing when her molars were coming through, it is a phase and will pass! as suggested try giving him smoothies or fingers foods like cheese or rice cakes or toast.  Believe me you would be surprised on how little food toddlers can get by on.

Try not to stress too much (easier said then done i know!) but hopefully soon he will get his appetite back.

HTH :D
