Is this holding to almost asleep a prop?
« on: November 30, 2005, 22:04:19 pm »
My 7 week old Ella is an excellent baby overall, probably between textbook and angel. She has pretty consistently in the last 1.5 weeks turned herself into an all night sleeper and I couldn't be happier. The only thing is her ritual for sleep. I close the lights, close the blinds, put her in her sleep sack and I hold her in the chair until I hear her breathing slow and then place her in the crib (no rocking or anything, only use shh/pat if crying a lot). Most of the time her eyes blink open and shut as I place her in the crib and I leave the room, she goes directly to sleep. Some of the times her eyes stay closed when I place her in the crib. She never wakes wondering where I am as she is good sleeper and very rarely wakes. Is this a good technique to have her drift off, as most babies she cries a little and kicks but within 5-10 minutes her breathing slows and she goes to dreamland. Should I be placing her sooner in crib or I am doing okay to wait to the point that I am.I don't want this to become a prop. Sorry this is so long.

If her eyes close before you put her in the crib then I'd say you're waiting just a little bit too long.  Try putting her in there as soon as her breathing relaxes a bit and you see her eyes getting sleepy.

Sounds like you're doing great, though!  :-)
