Any reason not to extend to 4hr EASY?
« on: December 06, 2005, 00:23:18 am »
My lo (12 weeks) seems to be overeating.  The last two days she has spit up more than usual, right after feeding.  Today went like this:

4:30am fed
7:30am fed
8:50am nap (a little more awake time than usual due to other circumstances)
9:50am awake (she's been doing this 1 hour nap thing and then being miserable, try to extend, sometimes works)
10:10am fed spit up more than normal
11:10am nap
12:10pm awake
12:30pm nap (she was a grouch... fought the nap, but took it)
2:00pm woke her from nap to feed - 4 hours
3:00pm nap
5:00pm fed 3 hours, spit up more than normal, but not as bad as 2.5 hours
at this point I was a little stuck... we used to do 4:30, 6:30, bed df 11, so
6:30pm topped off - didn't take much at all.

So my question is, should I stretch her to a 4 hour EASY?  I know we're heading for a growth spurt in the next two weeks or so.

Any advice?
Thanks
~Rachel

Frequent visitor to the breastfeeding board, if you keep this up, we might crown you a moderator!    Not to worry, my second time around gave me a lot more feeding questions than anything else. He was just so different from my first. Make sense?

Other than the fact that 4-5 feeds just doesn't seem like enough for a 3 month old, I don't see a problem with extending her feeds a little bit. Just try to listen to her hungry cues. Maybe not 4 hrly. Remember that more calories in during the day equals less calories needed at night.

(Your other option is to feed her smaller, more frequent meals, but what mom of two has time for that?  )

You've noticed my many questions... yes, many more with the second

We found out last night why not to go to a 4 hour EASY.  She woke at 9:15 for food... took a full feed.  She then downed 2 oz at an 11 df (which she started fussing for... habit?).  Then she was up at 1:30, finally fed at 2:15 ish and then she was up at 6:15.  So I will deal with the spit up and continue the bibs

I do suppose we are embarking on the 3 month growth spurt as well, huh?

Thanks!

Sometimes it is so hard to tell what is up! Especially with a 2nd baby, you don't have all of your attention to focus on them, no matter how hard you try, there's only one you. And once you think you have them figured out, they go and change on you. Nothing is ever certain, right?

Here's to hoping you're on a wild growth spurt with a nice EASY routine on the other end.
