Baby Rice - 4 1/2 Months
« on: December 06, 2005, 16:15:07 pm »
Well, up to this point, I have been exclusively breast feeding my daughter.  I was intending on continuing that until 6 months as I know it is best for them.  However, she has been displaying all of the classic signs of wanting solids over the last couple of weeks.  So, I decided to give her a bit of baby rice last night.  She ate it no problem and had a fantastic sleep (which meant I too had a great sleep!).

I would like to continue having breat milk as her main source of food and just give her baby rice at the end of the day as that seems to be when she needs it.  I should add that even though I gave her a bit of rice, she still had the same amount of breast milk. I should also add that she is a big girl - 91st percentile in both weight and height.

Are there other mom's out there who mainly breast feed but give a bit of baby rice and if so, what do you do? I don't want to wean her until 6 months...

Cheers,

Kellie

I did the same before Kaitie got sick with this cold. There is no reason that you can't bf for as long as you want to.

Yup, I still bf and have started dd on cereal. She does fine. She also washes her cereal down with some pumped milk (or formula) in a Gerber straw cup. She does really well.

Do you just give the cereal in the evening before bed or at other times too? Thanks for any advice.  Oh, and how much do you give them?

Cheers,

K.

I am still breastfeeding my daughter at 9 months and she is on solid foods.  I give her the breast and then solids.  I started her with rice cereal at 4 months in the morning and the evening about 1 to 2 tbsp.
Once I started her on rice cereal she also stopped nursing in the night.

You can continue to nurse as long as you want to.

We're just getting started on solids so this is what our day looks like......

7am bf
11am bf
12:30pm oatmeal cereal (about 1/4 cup) with bm in straw cup
3pm bf
6:30 bf

Not sure how this will continue but it works for now I guess.
