Question about pat/shh
« on: December 09, 2005, 02:11:22 am »
Hi, I am new to this board and have a question about the pat/shh. We have been using pat/shh for about two weeks. Our daughter is now 5 weeks old. She is doing good with it and going to sleep pretty good on her own. Most of the time all we have to do is keep our hands on her when she jolts to prevent her from waking up.

I was wondering how long is it before she will be able to go to sleep completely on her own? (Without us having to stay with her for 20-30 minutes.)

Thanks,
Angie

WOW Angie!  You are doing great and should be so proud of yourselves!  I was not able to get my dd to take to pat/shush until she was 9 weeks old and then it took about 5 more weeks before she got the hang of it.

It is hard to answer your question with 100% accuracy since all lo's are different, but since you are starting so young then hopefully she will be able to do it on her own sometime between 3-4 months of age.  For right now you are providing the soothing for her wiht pat/shush since she can't self soothe yet.  So for right now she will be needing you a lot, but it will be so worth it when she goes to sleep on her own for the first time.  It is truly a proud moment!   :)

Thank you for your reply.  Yes, it is a great moment when they can sleep on their own. I have a son who is two, but we always rocked him to sleep until he was about 7 months.

Thanks again,
Angie
