9 month old refusing bottle
« on: December 09, 2005, 17:11:42 pm »
Lately my dd has been refusing to take her bottle, she gets between 4-6 ounces 1 hour after her solids, about 3 times perday sometimes 4, i have to give her a late night bottle to make up calories.  She ha been pulling this the last week, should i worry about it or is it just a phase??  I know it could be a nursing strike but that would make this her second one in the last month or so.  She takes her solids fine, can i just assume she isn't hungry?

Refusing Bottles

Hi there,

Could this not be down to teething?  I find when my lo's gums are bothering him, he will hardly take any of his bottle, but will still eat his food.

Have you tried changing the size of the teats on the bottles.  I found when I was on a slower flowing teat, that my lo would get fed up with drinking and then refuse to take any more of his bottle.  Once I switched the teats it was plain sailing again.

Only the two suggestions I can think of.

Hope all goes well.  Let me know how you get on.

Regards
Paula - Mum to Thomas

well she is teething like crazy but the teeth are taking forever to come in and when i used a stage3 nipple it was way to fast for her, lots of gulping, so i have stuck with the stage 2 nipple.  when do you switch to a stage 3 bu the way?

Mine has been on fast flow since four months and I am now just starting to give her milk in a sippy cup. Have you tried that? I found she takes more milk that way tha from a bottle sometimes. Teething also makes her loose her appetite though so it might just be down to that.

she has had a sippy since she was 6 months old and she is not very interested in it, i try so hard to get extra fluids in her during the day, like water and maybe a little applejuice.  she is sorta stuffy right now.  she seems to take more milk later in the day, and i have to give her a dreamfeed to make sure sheis getting her daily requirement, i make sure she is getting at least 16 ounces per day.  I see the ped on tuesday so i will see what he says.
