All she does is sit
« on: December 11, 2005, 16:39:32 pm »
My eight month old has no interest in anything apart from sitting. Since she has ben able to, she does not like to be on her tummy; if I move the toys away from her in order to encourage crawling she just starts playing with her sleeve, looking at the ceiling, anything except move!!!!!!!!! Should I be concerned, let her be................?

can you get her to be on her belly if she is on top of you? Like having her belly on you belly?  That was the only way I could start to get jack to go on his belly.  He is only just starting to go on his tummy and pushing himself backwards....but still doesn't like to do it for long periods of time.  I wouldn't be to worried.

Sounds EXACTLY the same as my ds.  He would happily sit for hours I think.  And just like your dd he would play with his sleeve, his fingers, his socks... anything within reach.  If it was out of reach it just wasn't worth having!  I must admit there were days when I wondered whether he'd still be doing this at age 2     But I'm happy to say he is now crawling (finally!).  He army crawls now (started about 10 months).  However he is still really happy to just lie and play with something for ages.  I think this is just him.

I would say not to worry about your dd.  What I started doing around 9 months was every time I put him down on the floor I would put him on his tummy.  9 times out of 10 he would always roll straight over onto his back.  But the more I did it the more he started to stay on his tummy.  I'm sure that's what got him crawling.

Sorry I can't be more help.

You're describing my 8.5mth old dd too!  While she likes her tummy time, it doesn't seem to get her any more interested in moving anywhere.  I just continue with the TT and while she's sitting I bend one knee in and lean her forward onto her hands and get her to go onto her hands and knees that way (she still flops straight onto her belly), but at least it's getting her used to what her body can do.  Your lo may be the type to crawl from the sitting position rather than tummy which is what I suspect may happen here too.

I'm sure they'll be up and moving by age 5.  :D

My dd is almost 9 months old, and she isn't crawling yet either. She loves to sit and play with her toys, and she also enjoys holding onto our fingers to stand and walk. We had a childbirth class reunion this afternoon, and although my dd was the oldest baby there, she was the only immoble one. She just sat there and took it all in! I think she's starting to get interested in crawling though, because when I go into her room after a nap, she's up on her hands and knees rocking back and forth. I'm trying to do more tummy play time with her, but she fusses a lot on her tummy. Oh well--I guess all babies figure things out at their own pace. I figure she'll move when she's ready!
