Can a baby over eat?
« on: December 12, 2005, 03:23:29 am »
DD is 4 months and a week old. I had been exclusively breastfeeding until last week. I've been giving her formula just before bed for a week now hoping she would sleep longer. I gave her 115ml then breastfed her afterwards for a week until tonight. Tonight she took 115ml and was crying when it was done so I decided to give her more. She took another 80ml until she wouldn't take the bottle anymore then had a few sip of my milk. I am not sure if this is too much because it just seems a lot at once for her. I am afraid she would overeat and be very uncomfortable while she sleeps. Can a baby overeat? How much should a 4 months old eat?

They will stop when they are full.....except I do think that if using feeding to sleep on a REGULAR basis you can overfeed because they are using the suckling as a tool to get them to sleep.  HTH  :D
