10 mo: not jumping in or CC?
« on: December 12, 2005, 15:00:37 pm »
I remember reading the section of BWSAYP about sleep problems into the second year and thinking - wow how could anyone let it get that far?!  Well we have 2 months left of this till we are there!   :(

DD started night waking from 7 mo when she started crawling.  She can still get off to sleep fine and usually naps are ok but at night she will wake 2-4 times.  Mostly I can go in and rearrange/lay her down again and leave but sometimes she cries when I try to leave and that can go on for 1.5 hrs.

I think I was going in too soon when this started b/c she had bad sep anxiety and I thought if I responded quickly she would feel more secure but now I think we have a bad habit.   She is spirited - she doesn't just cry halfheartedly; it is from zero to full throttle wailing instantly.  I told dh about the jumping in too fast and he evidently interpreted it to mean we should try CC (as MIL and SILs keep telling us  ) as I found him waiting outside her room while she cried this w/e   :x .  So now will we have a trust issue too??! :(  (He is going to read up on BW again tonight :x )

So what I want to know is: when does 'not jumping in too soon' become CC and when does 'helping them feel secure' become too much of a prop?

Hoping you can help us!!!  thanks

OMG, sorry I cannot be of any help.  I am here trying to find posts about the same issue.  My DS started needing me to stay with him to settle about 3 weeks ago.  Will not fall asleep without bum patting and hand holding.  I am trying to be patient and occasionally I leave him for 1 minute to see if he's over it, but he's not.  We've had a couple nights where he has been up every 45 minutes.  I'm not sure if it's SA or food issues or teething or who knows what else but I am at my wits end trying to figure it out.

Anyway-big hugs to you.  I am also worried I've become a prop.  I'm just doing what I feel I need to to make him comfortable right now :? so confusing these little ones.

Hi traci!  Love your avatars by the way - what a cutie!  Thanks for your post.  I really think this started more b/c of milestones, leading seamlessly into SA   rather than teething cos the teeth came and went and there wasn't a lot of difference.  In fact, probably me going in and giving pain medication in the night thinking it was teeth made the whole thing worse!  We also had the nights of every 45 mns unless there was handholding too.  BUT we have just had two nights straight through (haven't had that in a while) but I don't want to get my hopes up yet - three's a habit right...?  :)

Here's hoping we get some insights soon.... and that yours won't last as long as mine has!

Kate

well actually she didn't wake up last night so I didn't have to think about it!  The night before she cried out twice but must have been in her sleep cos she stopped right away.  Today is the third day in a row though that her afternoon nap has been under an hour  :? Keeping my fingers crossed and my hopes in check for tonight....
