8 month old won't stay on tummy...no interest in crawling
« on: December 14, 2005, 01:36:38 am »
My 8 mo old DS hates being on his tummy.  Anytime I lie him down on his tummy he immediately rolls over to his back.  He shows no interest in crawling - seems to not even know that it exists!  He loves sitting and playing.  he loves walking while holding onto our fingers.  He'll play for a while on his back and then starts trying to situp from that position (he has great ab muscles!)  Anyone else in this situation?  People are shocked that he isn't crawling yet.  I know not to worry about it and really think he may skip it entirely.  Just looking for others in the same boat!

My daughter is exactly the same - she will 'crawl' backwards or  in a circle but hates being on her tummy and will roll to her back. She is almost 9 months old and I am being to think she will never crawl. She walks everywhere holding onto fingers and has taken one or two steps alone or with one hand. She will pull herself up so she can 'walk' to where she wants to go.

my dd is only 6 months but is the exact same way...we haven't had more than two seconds of tummy time at a time for over a month now!...and god forbid she actually roll onto her tummy anymore - she learned quickly she didn't like that!  as far as crawling - she shows no interest at all and focuses all her effort on trying to sit up and standing or jumping (while holding fingers or in jumperoo of course).  i asked about this on the boards and was told that some lo's learn to crawl from a sitting position - maybe that's what yours will do.  some babies don't crawl at all and just become early walkers..whatever happens, no need to worry your lo is just showing off his individuality!

Thanks for the posts...you're two LOs sound a lot like mine.  I'm sure they'll figure it all out in no time.  I'm kind of thankful to not have to worry about DS getting into the Christmas tree, etc!

Hi the only thing I was going to say was when I was a baby I never crawled just shuffled on my butt and apparentely could zoom off quite well!

I don't think it is anything to worry about I walked fine from that!

My baby is eight months old and has no interest in crawling either. SHe loves sitting;  any time I put her on her tummy she also rolls back and she  also has inly now just started to stand; I put her in the crib holding onto the bars but she does not 'walk'. Also does not feed herself. Still theped said it is nothing to worry about; I can not help it though when everyone else's baby is doing it so I am happy to hear of another mum in the same boat.
