15 mo old sleeping through the night.... gone
« on: December 13, 2005, 02:23:43 am »
OK, we need a little advice. My dd used to sleep through the night. (usual story... I know) Then about a month ago she started waking a few times a night. Then it stopped for a little bit. I would give Motrin quit a bit thinking it was her teeth. She is getting her 4th molar now. I talked to my dr. about it on Friday for her well check up. He thinks I have trained her to cry out when she wakes up slightly so I will come in there and get her and now can't sooth herself. I will say that I don't give her milk or anything. I usually pick her up and hold her for a minute or two then say "it's night night time" and put her down. Usually she goes back to sleep immediately. Some nights she does this once, last night... 4 TIMES. He told me I should let her CIO. I know... but I was willing to try it the 3rd time. She doesn't really cry, she just whines in there standing up on her crib. I let her do this for an hour and gave up, we both needed to get to bed. The night before I did the "sit in her room but ignore her thing" which got me no where too. I did that for 45 and gave up. Should I be trying something for longer?? Does anyone have ideas? Have you been through this? I don't think she is hungry. She gets a bottle right before bed. Please help... we are both pretty tired. :) Sorry so long....

Hello,

How does she fall asleep when she initially goes to bed?  I agree, that you should not leave her to CIO as that will probably make matters worse.  This age can be so tough sometimes with developmental things going on, teething, etc..  My ds who is 2 still wakes up once a night.  He just wants a drink of water, so it is relatively quick.  My only suggestion would be to go in and reassure her when she wakes during the night, keep it short with little interaction, try not to pick her up, and remain consistent with how you respond to her.

Hope this helps a bit, and good luck!

What time does she go to bed?If it's later than 7.30pm then I would bring it down to at least 6.30-7pm (7.30 at very latest)
I've had to stroke Emily's hair for about 2 hours before,as soon as I stood up and my knees click she's awake again.

If you think you can pick her up and settle her back down within a few minutes then do that, maybe she just needs a cup of water.

Could it be a growth spurt?Maybe needs an extra mik at night?Sorry if this doesn't help,I've been going stir crazy with the sleepness nights I had with E.
Turns out this time she had inner ear infection

Thanks you two for your posts. Last night we improved a little. She woke up only once and my husband let her fuss for only 10 minutes before she went back to sleep and stayed asleep. Maybe I should try giving her some water next time. Usually she does go back down pretty easily for the most part. It just depends. She goes to bed at 7. She used to go down very easily. Now she cries some after you put her down and shut the door. I just don't know.
