Toddler fighting sleep
« on: December 13, 2005, 17:37:12 pm »
Hello,

My 22 month old has recently (last 2 weeks) started fighting naps and bedtime.  He used to be so easy to deal with.  Put him in his crib, kiss, hugs and goodnight.  He might occaisionally talk to himself or play for a bit before nodding off.  Now he cries, climbs out ( which he figured out how to do) throws the soother on the floor.  It seems like a game and can last for 1/2 hour for naps and last night 2 hours at bedtime.   When he does nod off he'll sleep for ~2 hours at naptime and for 10-11 hours at night.  I don't let him sleep past 3 pm for naps so it won't affect bedtime. My DH and I are at our wits end.

Here is our usual schedule:
6:15-7:15am wake up
11:30-12:00pm lunch
12:30/1:00-3:00pm nap
5:00pm supper
7:30 bedtime routine
8:00pm into bed.....may or may not be asleep at this time.

Could he just be dropping naps? I was hoping they'd stick around a little longer as #2 is due in July and I could use the time.
Is he just being independant and he'll decide when he'll sleep?

Any suggestions?

I would put him to bed by at least 7.30pm
Sounds a bit weird but I guarantee after a couple of days he'll sleep straight through. The nap time seems about right, but it seems to work with lots of other posters here.
Maybe try it for a couple of weeks to see how it goes.
Please let me know how you go.
It's really the only thing I can think of.
I am still having a few problems with naps, she'll scream Mary if I put her in the cot during the day,so I've resorted to the sofa (bad probably, but I'm the one with sleepness nights if she doesn't nap)
