How do you get them to take more formula
« on: December 13, 2005, 18:42:09 pm »
or is this even possible?  My pediatrician says she should be getting about 24oz at this age and i am lucky if i get 16+ in her.  Because of this i have to offer her a dreamfeed still, any advice on how to get the extra ounces in them? :) ..she is in the 25% which he is fine with but seems low to me :?

In the UK, from 6 months the minimum requirement is 20 ounces which is inclusive of milk on cereal, in foods, dairy products such as yoghurt, cheese, etc.  They dont have to take the whole lot as a drink as you can substitute other foods containing calcium, etc

If your lo is happy with the amount she is drinking and you are giving other sources of calcium I wouldnt worry at all.  These minimum requirements are based on the 'average' baby and not everyone has one of them!!

Hello,
Some babies just don't take as much, and there's nothing that you can do to force it - plus you wouldn't want to do that    How does she do on solids?  Zoe probably only took around 15-20 ounces as well, but she's on the chunkier side and does great with solids.  If she is gaining weight, she is doing ok.  Do you offer the DF to get more calories in her, or so she doesn't wake at night?

If you don't already, you could mix her cereal with formula vs water.  Offer her cheese and yogurt too.

HTH  :D

she absolutely loves her yobaby yogurt and loves chedder slices as well.  I offer her the dreamfeed to get more ounces in her, and maybe i am afraid to drop it as well in case she dosen't sleep through the night.  she eats her solids pretty well, and i make her oatmeal with applejuice and water and mix yogurt in it which she loves.   she is a thin baby and very active and just dosen't seem interested in eating alot, i know this may change, i am just so sick of worrying about it  ...I offer her solids till she won't eat anymore and of course at this age she just wants to feed herself :?

It sounds like she is doing perfectly ok then  :D   As long as she doesn't start losing weight, try (I know it's hard  :D ) not to worry too much  :D

My Emily never drank nearly what she was supposed to and weighs in at the 85 percentile.  She now drinks 18oz plus I sneak 4oz of formula in her dinner porridge to make up from dropping the dreamfeed about 3 weeks ago.

i may try that because bella hardly took anything today :( ...I just don't see dropping the dreamfeed just yet, simce she isn't taking full bottles...for example its 7pm and she is passed out and would only take 3 ounces at bedtime, and last week she was taking at least 6, and with her other feeds today that makes a total of maybe 10 ounces :? ...I know she needs alot more, her top two teeth are really trying to come in, i hope thats all it is, she checked out fine at the ped yesterday.
