HOW DO I BREAK THIS HABIT?
« on: December 13, 2005, 19:25:50 pm »
MY DD IS 8 1/2 WEEKS OLD..WE HAVE GOTTEN INTO THE HABIT OF ROCKING HER TO SLEEP....DOESN'T TAKE LONG BUT WE CERTAINLY DON'T PUT HER INTO THE CRIB AWAKE..WHEN I'VE TRIED, SHE JUST FUSSES AND SQIRMS TO THE POINT OF AN ALL OUT HYSTERICAL CRY UNTIL WE GO IN THERE..(THE LONGEST I'VE LEFT IS ABOUT 10 MINUTES).  HOW CAN I CHANGE HER SLEEPING HABITS TO TEACH HER TO FALL ASLEEP ON HER OWN?

you need to break the association of rocking to sleep.  she will cry, and you teach her how to self-soothe.

here are some very helpful & descriptive things to read:
