Hysterical with the sippy.......
« on: December 13, 2005, 20:21:44 pm »
My little one is eight months old and has been using  a sippy cup to drink her water for two months now without any problems at all. (She does not hold the cup though).  I feel it is now time to at least start introducing milk in the sippy as well. I tried yesterday and today; she usually has 7 ounces through the day, with the cup she had none and she was crying hysterically. She never cries like that and it really broke my heart. WHat can I do?

We too started with a regular cup and water early with Ella but milk... forget it. We went through soooo many sippy cups too! What eventually worked for us was we would still calmly offer her milk in a sippy then follow up with a bottle. She eventually took a sip, then a few more then a few oz. etc. until we worked our way up to all milk in the sippy. We also found the Nuby sippy worked for us and once she got the hang of it she will drink from most types now. Maybe this will work for you? I'd say just don't force it... I hope that helps a bit!

Thank you, we can not get hold of a NUby for love or money and I have heard so many good things about it too....... so upsetting. I will try doing the bit by bit thing. How long did it take you?

Well the thing about the Nuby is it has a soft spout similar to a bottle. And no valve, so maybe you could look for something the same? And it took us about 3 - 4 weeks to actually get decent feeds in. As I said we just kept it calm and always gave her the bottle after. Sometimes the sippy would only just sit beside her but we'd still try. Also we only did this "full time" at 10 1/2 months. Two months can make all the difference in the world! Good luck!

I've just found the Nuby's in Asda, next time I'm there I'm going to get some, where are you.  If you can't find them at an Asda, if you pm me I'll get you some and post them and you can send me a cheque if you don't mind.

Let me know, I will be going sometime next week!

Can I recommend the Dr Browns Sippy Cups - they are Nuby and William has started to love using one. I think they are really well priced too.

Ive used this website to get them from a few times and delivery is really fast!
