Confused-hoping for reassurance
« on: December 14, 2005, 16:23:44 pm »
My dd is 3mths.  On a typical day, she bfs 8 times.  When I feed her she she takes a maximum 5 minutes to eat.  She's still only having one side, sometimes at night, she tanks up by having both.

I know I have fast flow (I've seen it shooting out when she pulls off, and this was the cause of earlier gas issues).

I've tried to do a yield, but I don't get the let down and I know what's coming out isn't representative.  I get maybe an ounce.

Also, my breasts are always soft.  I can feel they're a little heavier before a feed, but they don't feel full (and almost engorged) like they did with my son.  Is this normal?

DD was 5 1/2 lb at birth, 8 pounds at 2 months, and now, at 3 months is 10 pounds.

I found that with #2 I was less engorged and didn't have leaking or fullness problems like I did with #1. My body knew what it was doing and so did I. I had a huge oversupply with #1.

Her weight gain isn't great, but some children are more petite than others.

What does your mommy instinct telling you? She is definately eating enough times during the day - what is her output like?

To start with I had very full hard breasts but this settled down & now I never even feel the let down reflex & can hardly tell the difference between full & empty breast but 4.5 month old dd is piling on the pounds so they are obviously still working well.

Her output is normal.  It seems as though she's satisfied.  I find I misread her sleep ques, not her feeding ques.

I just had a dr appointment with dd and she's 5%, but she's been consistantly small.  I'm also not a big gal, and have always been pretty small myself.

I guess if I think about it, I feel good about her weight gain.  It's not as much as my son, but I think if she was hungry I'd know it.

I'm glad to hear that there's someone else who didn't have "full" breasts the second time around.  It does seem like my body knows what to do.

Thanks.

I'm glad to hear someone else with my same problem.  my LO is 3 months and she feeds for a max of 6 minutes and IS gaining weight.  I had the same problem pumping, I would barely get any...but I know my daughter is satisfied.

how has this affected your schedule?  how long is your activity time? and sleep time?  my LO is only sleeping 30-40 minutes and wakes up happy.  any suggestions..

Max did 45-60 min naps until he was able to stay awake longer than an hour. We just did 2-2.5 hr EASY cycles until he was about 4 months old and he stretched it out on his own.

Good for you to listen to yourself. You know what is best for her. FWIW, my dd was at the 5% end of the growth charts. My ped liked to say "someone has to make up that end of the scale, just as some baby out there is 99%". One nice thing, they don't go through clothes so fast!
