olivia rolled tummy to back at 7 weeks but took until 7 months to roll the other direction and then have regular rolling so i voted over 6 mo.

alex on the other hand rolled tummy to back at 5 weeks and the other way at 4 1/2 mo.

no 2 kids are the same

Thanks for posting. To be honest I think I am becoming a bit obsessed witt this. Eve is 6 months old and she isn't rolling. If I put her on her tummy she can roll onto her back but she won't roll from back to tummy.

i know it is stressful when you think they should have done something by a certain time (for me it was made worse because i had alex to compare with  ). she finally rolled at 7 mo and after a little while it was a moot point and she moved on to crawling (8 mo) and now standing up / pulling up (9 mo).

i had a peek in "What to Expect..." for you and they only mention that in the 5th month (5-6 months old) lo shoudl be able to roll over (one way) I could find no other mention in the book about rolling the other way - to me that shows that importance is not placed on when/if they roll BOTH ways just that they are capable of rolling.  sitting up is a bigger milestone as is walking - crawling is not a requirement for walking so some babies never crawl and just start walking one day, etc

Yes, try not to stress over it  :D   John only rolled over 2-3X total (one time from back to tummy and 2x from tummy to back and I don't think he was all that young  )  Since he could sit up he just never needed or cared to go anwhere.  And today he's just perfect (and VERY mobile) I might add!!

Jack is just 5 months and is almost going back to tummy(but not quite!) He shows no sign what-so-ever of trying to go tummy to back, which really surprises me cos he's a tummy sleeper so I really thought he would go that way first.  I read peoples posts saying how theirs rolled one way or the other from 6 weeks and am amazed!! Neither of mine ever showed any signs of doing it that early!

My DD has never rolled.  She occassionally rolls from her back to her side to watch the Tweenies, without her nappy on.  But when she is fully clothed, no way will she roll.

I think in total Aiden rolled about 3 times I think it was only tummy to back twice (sometime around 5mo) & the other way once about 8mo... he then sat until he was 10.5 mo when he started to crawl... now he runs jumps etc.
Liam well in 1min he can roll from one side of the room to the other

Guess which one I would prefer any day

Kai has been a roller since 3/4 months but he cannot sit up for more than 10 seconds. He knows mummy will be there to lean on so why bother!

my lo rolled back to tummy at 3-4mo, but tummy to back at 5-6mo and then rolled constantly until he discovered he could pull himself around the floor at 6mo.  but there are things that he doesn't do - like sitting.  it'S really true, no two kids are alike.

dd rolled from back to tummy at 3 months & then the other way a few weeks later but every time she rolled from tummy to back she scared herself & just screamed, so now she stops herself from rolling that way & ends up getting frustrated.

She doesn't like stting & is only happy when stood up on her feet...thank heaven for door bouncers

Thanks everyone for all your comments. It is very much appreciated. I think I need to accept that they are all individual and will do things in their own time! DD has been rolling from her tummy to back for a couple of months (although she doesn't like tummy time!) and she has now started to roll on to her side when she is on her back. What have I been worried about?

Thanks again,

Lizzie
