Refusing the spoon and not eating enough - Help ?
« on: December 14, 2005, 21:48:12 pm »
:?

We normally manage a good breakfast, obviously he's hungry after the night, and at lunch he has finger foods and yoghurt.  But my/our problem is dinner time, I always feel that he should take protein/veg to balance the day out, I rarely manage 2 spoonfuls of mushed food.  We have tried out given little bits of veg but this normally ends up on the floor !  I don't really mind this but its not getting the food down him that worries me......any ideas ?[/u][/b]

I find my 1 year old will only eat finger food sometimes. She has been doing this since about 9 months off and on. Don't know how old your lo is but, like Sharon said, could be an independence thing. Giving dd something to hold (that wasn't a toy!) also helped with eating. If she wasn't hungry, she would drop the object.

Me too... as far as something to hold. I find if I give dd a toddler fork or spoon, I take spoon and fork and we alternate between her using her hands and stabbing at the food and me feeding her with a utensil or my hand. Or I'll give her toast fingers or steamed veg or some other finger food plus a puree so she can dip and I can still spoon feed.
