Cereal - Mix with breastmilk?
« on: December 17, 2005, 09:00:58 am »
Hi!

I was wondering about what other breastfeeding moms do when it comes to mixing cereal. Do you use breastmilk, formula or water? I am pumping at 10 pm every night to have some bm to mix with my 7 month old's cereal during the day. Every night I'm wondering how other moms do it. Am I "crazy" because I'm still pumping at night?

And how long will I be feeding my DD cereal?

Thanks!
Ankie

Here in the UK they say it's fine to use full fat cows milk with cereal after 6 months. I've got 2 weeks to go until then and counting the days!

Thanks Rebecca! I'm not quite sure if I want to use cow's milk yet, but I appreciate the advice!

Any other mom's out there that would like to share their experiences?
Thanks!

Hi hulababysmommy

My DS is nearly 9 months and I still pump every night at about 10.  I think we're both mad

I use either EBM or boiled water to mix cereal for my DS - just depends on how much EBM I have to spare.  He doesn't seem to mind it either way.  I think other mum's use formula but I never have.

As for how long you will be feeding cereal - well, we still are here.  My DS seems to be a bit particular about what foods he will eat but he sure will eat cereal so I just keep giving it.

I express (finger when I need it... but I'm second time around & it is easy for me) a bit of milk for the cereal, but I mix it up mostly with pears... my ds only pooped every 10 days when ebf so my Health nurse suggested starting with pears as he was at risk of being consipated by the rice cereal alone.... it has worked great.

So if you have introduced fruit try just mixing the fruit with the cereal & a bit of water if you don't want to express.

like jo said - if i have the xtra ebm than i use that, if not boiled water works just fine.  if your lo is having a hard time accepting solids(cereal) than i would try the ebm as it is a little sweeter and the taste is familiar to your lo.

Thanks a lot ladies! I appreciate your replies!
Good to know I'm not the only one "mad" enough out there to still be pumping!
