Help! About to give up on extending naps
« on: December 20, 2005, 09:45:04 am »
Hi
I am quite new to EASY - DS is 22 weeks old and w have been doing it nearly two weeks! The problem is i just cannot get him to sleep past the 45 min cycle, especially in the morning- he did used to sleep lovelyboth am/pm naps when he had a dummy but i had to get rid of it as he kept dropping it at night and waking me up - his eyes ping open and he's wide awake smiling at me - i try to shield his eyes but that doesn't work and also i can't pat his back as he is sleeping on it!  I could leave him there to cry, and then i will do pat/ssh but he only falls asleep after about 30 mins through exhaustion.
The afternoons are not much better to be honest but i can sometimes get him to go an hour to an hour and a half.  My EASY routine is posted in the forum - it currnetly goes EASAE, with not a great deal of Y for me!

Advice please!!!!
Karyn

Does he have enough awake time?  I found that right around 22 weeks, my DD was able to stay up longer and that helped her to nap longer.

yes i think so - he is up from 7 till 9am and in the afternoon i struggle to keep him up much past 12.15pm.  I probably need to be more persistent with pu/pd but i end up feeling sorryfor him as he objects so much!!!

Hello,
I was just wondering, have you tried Wake to Sleep? It basically means that, instead of waiting until he wakes up at 45mins, and then going in to help him go back to sleep, you go in earlier, and catch him before he wakes. It might be worth a try in your situation?

These links might help:
