Another AF question
« on: December 21, 2005, 09:29:10 am »
Just wondering when the average arrival of AF is. I am 8 going on 9 months post partum, AF is MIA. I KNOW I'm not pg... so don't even suggest it. She really just shows no signs of coming. With the first two she showed up right after I stopped bf, and Mr. E and I are still quite commited to eachtother so maybe that's it?  He still doesn't sleep through the night (not like we've worked on it.  ) and while he takes a bottle he has to be pretty hard up to take it these days. He loves to bf, and even isn't too much into baby food. Likes the Yo Baby and applesauce. I can feed him anything if I mix in enough applesauce. He likes to feed himself mostly. Suspect he will be like dd, no solids until he's in control on feeding self.

Anyhoo... digressing... would love to hear thoughts.

AF returned about 9mos postpartum, approximately 6wks after we dropped to four feeds a day.  However, she stopped waking at night to eat around 3.5mos.

AF came back for me the next month after I stopped breastfeeding, no sign for the full year that I BF...there is your incentive not to stop

    Sounds familiar!

Mine came back at 4 months pp with both, my body was just roaring to get back to fertility. Some moms don't get it back until months after weaning.

With first 2, it came back at 5 months, with Micah it was back at 4.5 mos and I haven't even started solids yet.  I think it differs so much for everyone.  Enjoy it!

Tanya,

you are cosleeping, right? That and frequent feedings may have something to do with it. I know it depends on many things but I know that some women may go even 20 something months without AF.

I got my period at exactly 6 months post partum.

Mine didn't come back until just after the one year mark--I was only bfing 3 or 4 times a day by then I think that was what did it.

Mine came back at 13.5 months-- about 3-4 weeks after we weaned down to 2 feeds a day.  I think that's what finally did it.  We stopped night nursing at 9 months and also went down to 4 feeds at that time.  But apparently that was still enough to keep AF at bay.  I did spot very, very lightly (we're talking drops here) at 11 months, but then nothing until 13.5 months.
