Maybe someone has some answers :)
« on: December 21, 2005, 15:49:50 pm »
Lately my lo has been shortening all of her naps. She will be 11 weeks on Monday. Previously Ella took 3 2 hours naps daily, as well as a catnap. Lately, one of her morning naps are 1.15-1.5 hours, the second is usually okay (2 hours or a little bit shorter) and her afternoon naps in the last two weeks I have been out and about getting ready for the holidays so she takes her 2 hour nap quite well in her carseat. Her catnap she takes most days, but yesterday she wouldn't. I know she is getting older and possibly she should be awake longer but I am getting all the signals to put her down or else she gets overtired. She is bf quite well every three hours, but she is not starving as she used to be at 3 hours, just happy to get on and nurse. Should I do a longer EASY (3.15-3.5) or should I keep her up a little longer to get a longer nap. Sometimes she seems content after a short nap but sometimes she cries. Do you think my going out with her in the buggy is sacrificing her naps, I really need to get out daily since it is dark and gloomy winter. Please let me know what I should do :)

Hmm, it's a tough call at that age :)

My best advice is to experiment. Try keeping her up up to 15 mins more and see how she reacts. She sounds like she's right on the edge of needing to be pushed up at least 15 mins more of "A" time. It's common for lo's to take a good nap at the regular "A" time sometimes, and then sometimes not, waking up crying because they can't get back to sleep.

If being up 15 mins more is not the answer, try putting her down a little earlier...sometimes 5 or 10 mins makes all the difference for that fine line between the window and being overtired.

At that age I did quite a bit of experimentation. Mine got overtired easily too, so my best bet was to go with a little bit shorter "A" time as a rule.

Hope this helps a little!
