improtant to reduce number of bottles?
« on: December 22, 2005, 15:01:06 pm »
Is it really important to reduce the number of bottles?  My dd is 10months old and has 4 bottles a day.  She has 6oz a bottle for the day feeds and a 3oz bedtime bottle.

Take the lead from you LO - as long as she's happy with what she's getting the I wouldn't worry about following the "rules" on how many bottle she should be having. All babies are different, as long as she's getting enough milk to keep her satisfied that's all that matters.

There are lots of different opinions on this, but mine is that no, it's not important. Tyler was on 4 bottles (6 oz each) until the day we transitioned him to whole milk at 1 yr. The transition was incredibly easy and painless, and he didn't even notice that his bottles were gone (we dropped them gradually over about 2 wks so he could adjust his solids intake). If you're both happy on your current routine, I don't see much reason to change it!

I am of the same thought.  Ethan is still taking 4 bottles, each are 7 oz.  He doesn't always take it all, but the routine works for him.  If he starts to sleep later in the afternoon, during his usual bottle, then I *might* consider dropping it, and giving a small snack when he wakes up instead.  But that's a what if.

I think if Emily is happy with her current bottles, leave it as is.  My ped recommended that I just let Ethan take the lead on the bottles right now.
