less hours napping- problem!
« on: December 22, 2005, 22:43:01 pm »
hi all,

aidan is 15 months at the end of the month and i have just started to transition him from 2 to 1 naps. his am sleep was getting shorter and shorter!!

i have had to go cold turkey with him after a few attempts at doing it gradually cos this seemed to confuse him. so i have him sleeping at the point where he seems tired 11amish and whatever he sleeps then is all he has. he wakes at 6amish and is asleep for 7pm.

the problem is where with 2 naps he was having 20/30mins and then 1/1.5 hrs, with his 1 nap at 11am he is struggling to sleep for longer than an hour- he wakes up in a lovely mood but pm is a bit of a struggle cos he is still seeming to need a nap at 2.30/3.

i am worriesd that lack of sleep during day will affect his nighttime sleep! he is already prone to early waking when he is teething, unwell, wet nappy etc and am worried this will knock him.

what do you all think?

Hi There,

Let me first say that I am not an expert in the 2 to 1 transition having not gone through it myself, but Meg's mom (one of the other nap moderators) has.  There is an announcement at the top of the forum titled 2 to 1 how and when that you may want to take a look at as it has a lot of great information.

Also let me refer you to a post that got a lot of discussion on the same topic recently:

In the meantime I will also refer this post to Meg's mom and see if she can offer any other advice that is specific to your situation.
We'll do the best we can to help!

Good luck,
Andrea

Hi there, thanks Andrea...happened to find this one today when looking about.

I would try awake to sleep, when we went to 1 nap Megan would only sleep for 1.15hr - the exact time of her previous am nap.  Diego's mom suggested awake to sleep and presto she started sleeping 2hr...some days 2.5 or 3hrs!  Oh i love those days    .  Have a look at the announcement at the top of the forum "awake to sleep".

How long have you been doing the 1nap?  If not, too long...you need to give his body time to adjust..remember that you know he is getting 1 nap...but he doesn't.

Let me know if i can help w/ other questions.
