Final feedings?
« on: December 24, 2005, 06:31:03 am »
I have a 6month old
My daughter is currently on this schedule...
6:00 am wake & 8oz bottle
6:30 am play time
8:00 am nap
10:00 am wake and 6 oz bottle 1tbls Cerel
10:45 am play time
12:00 pm nap
2:00 pm wake and 6 oz bottle 1tbls cerel
2:45 pm playtime
4:00 pm nap
5:00 pm wake
6:00 pm 8 oz bottle
8:00 pm Bed
10:00 pm 8 oz bottle.

She is very random with her morning wake times.
I have noticed that a lot of moms do a final feeding between 6:00 & 8:00 pm.  My daughter doesn't seem to need her 10:00 feeding.  She is fast asleep and I have to wake her to eat but I just thought she would still need that 5th feeding.  I want her to take in more cerel but she seems full after her bottles.
ANY THOUGHTS:
#1)  How to get her to eat more solids?
#2)  Can I cut out that 5th feeding?

OH - and when do I need to stop burping her?  It seems like she should be able to do this on her own by now but I don't know if I should stop burping her.  Anyone???

Final feedings?

Hi i have lost this post twice so here goes i hope it works this time.
My Son is the same age as your LO and my schedule is as follows.

6.00 Wake breastfeed
7.00 Solids 2 tablespoons cereal 2 cubes fruit
8.00 Sleep
10.00 Wake solids 2 cubes veges 2 cubes fruit
11.00 breastfeed
12.00 Sleep
2.00-2.30 Wake Breastfeed
CAT NAP SOMEWHERE HERE
5.00 Dinner 3 cubes veges 3 cubes fruit
6.30 Breastfeed

I found he ate his solids better at the 10.00 feed if i offered them first. when i offered milk first he wasn't interested in solids. There is a lot of opinions out there about solids verses milk first or milk verses solids first. But what it really comes down to is what works for you and your baby. I was doing a 10.00 dreamfeed as well but went cold turkey a couple of weeks after introducing solids and he hasn't woken for it. Towards the end he was waking when i put him down so it was starting to disturb him more than nourish him. I still burped my daughter up untill she was 15 months old. I also burp my son after milk and solids in my opinion at this age thay still need a helping hand. I hope this makes sense and helped you to see another persons schedule.
Cheers Julie

Thank you for your post and reply.
I will try feeding her solids before her milk and see how she takes it.
I will keep you posted.

I cut out the 10 PM dreamfeed about 1 month after Tyler started solids. He never woke for it, and didn't seem to miss it. Since she isn't waking for it, you can probably eliminate it pretty easily. As for getting more solids into her, I wouldn't worry about it. At her age, she should be getting 24-32 oz of formula per day. Once you eliminate the 10 PM feed, she'll be getting just the right amount. You might find that she takes more solids once that feed is gone, but if she doesn't, I'd continue to focus on her formula intake and go from there. Keep in mind that formula should be her main source of nutrition for several more months, so there's really no reason to try and get her to eat more solids. It looks like she's doing great!

Question to Tyler's mom-

How old was Tyler when you quit the DF?
I'm wondering when to cut out ours, but a bit afraid to go cold-turkey.
Our LO is 6mo and started solids at 4mo.  I still BF and give her solids 2-3x/day.
