No longer taking formula - any suggestions??
« on: December 26, 2005, 01:59:22 am »
Hello,

I wasn't sure whether to post this topic here or on the breastfeeding forum but my LO refuses to drink any sort of formula now. I started her on formula when she was about 6 wks old and generally she would only need it at the babysitter's when there wasn't enough EBM. She has no problems with bottlefeeding. In the last 2 weeks for no known reason she has developed a complete aversion to formula feeds (took only about 20mL in 6 hrs!). But she would take a full 180mL of EBM. She would even refuse solids that have a little bit of formula mixed in. I work almost a full week and cannot express as much as she feeds so I need her to be able to take formula - I have tried different brands with no success - does anyone have any suggestions?? TIA

Have you tried mixing half EBM and half formula? Also try different temperatures. My little nephew likes it quite hot.

Hello there.... My dd did exactly the same at the same age. As I know EBM tastes sweet than some Formulas so until I tried second stage formula that tastes better and has different nutrients she took it. I also tries solids with milk and she identify the taste!!!!  She is taking now SMA Promil, I am not sure if you have it, but you should try with second stage and do as suggested with combining both at first and then less and less until she likes the taste. Hope this helps...
Good Luck.
