kinda silly question.

DD is currently working on oatmeal and getting a bit better at handling the texture.  Is it better to keep letting her practice with just that, or add a veggie/ fruit to her menus?  Does that question even make any sense?   I don't want to rush her at this, but don't want to hold her back either.

Not a silly question at all! Really, it's up to you if you want to start moving on to other foods. No harm in waiting it out a bit, and there's no harm in trying something new either! If she really likes the oatmeal and you feel it's time to start moving on, you can always mix a small amount of the new food in her oatmeal so she gets a new taste but with the same texture, then gradually increase the amount of the new food.

I added a bit of fruit and water, so the texture wasn't too thick and pasty.

Actually, if she's doing OK on oatmeal, she'll be fine with the texture of the fruit/veggie.  It's a lot smoother than oatmeal.  I always give DD fruit or veggie with her oatmeal, just cuz I wouldn't like my oatmeal plain so why should she?  =)  Plus, oatmeal is quite bland, so your DD might get a kick out of tasting some new flavors.  Don't be surprised if you get a few faces, so I would try pears or applesauce first.  My DD loved those on first bite!
