Nap/Bedtimes for 9 week old
« on: December 26, 2005, 03:37:51 am »
I am trying to get my 9 week old on some kind of bedtime/nap schedule. So far her bedtime ends up being at a different time each night. We always follow the same routine-bottle, bath, swaddle, and sing/rock. Then we put her in bed still awake. Sometimes she will sleep for three hours and sometimes she is awake in 30 minutes. My two year old was following a very consistent bedtime/nap schedule at this age, but we can't seem to get our new LO to fall into a consistent pattern. I was working at the time and we got up every morning at 5 AM. I am staying at home now, so our wake up time is always different. My main question is, do you think I should wake my LO up around the same time each morning or let her sleep until she wakes up? Will it hurt for her naps to be at different times each day? Right now she is on a three hour schedule, with activity time at about 20 minutes.

Thanks!

*personally*, when originally trying to set a schedule, i would get my kids up at the same time everyday.  after a couple of months, when they had the routine down, i'm more likely to let them sleep an extra 30 minutes to an hour - cause then i know how to space the day to get their naps in before bedtime.

HTH  :D

Thanks for your reply. We have been having some sleepless nights lately. Last night, we would pat her to sleep and then she would be up again in 45 minutes. It was 4:30 AM before she finally went to sleep and stayed asleep. My 2 year old gets up at 7:00. So, I would like her wake up time to be about 7:30. If we have a sleepless night and she finally is sleeping good at 7:00, do you think I should still get her up at 7:30?

If anyone has a schedule that is working for them for a baby around 9 weeks old can you please post it here?

Thank you so much! We can't handle very many more sleepless nights.

i think it depends on how you feel about it.  i probably would, so i could start to get some semblance of order.

there are lots of schedules posted in the EASY forum - definitely worth a look there.

Thanks! I'll check them out. I think we figured out the answer to our sleepless nights. My LO has her days and nights confused. Her "night" starts at 4 AM and lasts until 11:00 AM. We tried waking her up at 7:30 this morning and then limiting her morning nap to a little over 2 hours. We'll see how she does with this.

You'd think I'd be able to figure her out faster. This being my second.  :) I guess they are all different.

Thanks again for the advice.
