I'm tired of pacing...jigging....and not getting ds to sleep
« on: January 07, 2006, 20:21:19 pm »
Help me someone please.

DS is 2 years old.  He has  NEVER gone to sleep on his own.  I have always breastfed even though I'm trying to night wean.  Naps are just the same.  Today I actually spent 2 hours trying to put Luca to sleep!  I got into such a stress that I nearly started crying!

I was wondering about doing pick up put down..... but I think Luca might be too old for that as he gets up when I put him down.

I need your help....if anyone can help me I'm all ears!

thanks
Maria

Hi Maria
The only thing that worked for me was this.
Lay him down,go out of the room, count to 10,go back in,lay him down,go out of the room, count to 10,go in etc
Only go in if he's crying.
The first couple of nights are the worst.Took 50 minutes for me the first night, but works a treat now.Although I very rarely have to do it now.
The crying is very bad to begin with, but persevere.
You need to keep this up for at least 3/4 weeks without giving in,but I would say it has worked for the majority of people I know have done it.
Good luck

I tried counting to ten for his nap and he cryed and yelled to the top of his lungs and started shaking!  I gave up.

I think I went about it the wrong way.... should I speak to him?  should I make eye contact?  do I calm him down shhing him before I put him down?

I suppose all of these uncertainties were what made me give in.  I didn't know what I was doing.
