Can I freeze pureed fruit?
« on: December 29, 2005, 15:05:41 pm »
Can I?  I am just about to pop to Tesco and am going to get dd some pears, but I'm unsure if I can freeze them as I have been doing with her veggies?  Is it just the same process?

Thank you!

Yep, you can freeze fruit! You may have to cook it just a bit to soften it up if it isn't ripe enough. Also, some fruits turn a bit brown when exposed to air during the freezing process (pear, apple, avocado, banana, etc). Don't be put off by the discoloration, nutrients aren't affected and they're still good!

we used to bring them to the boil to soften them and then puree and freeze.sometimes they were very runny when we defrosted them so we would add a little cow and gate biscuit to thicken it up.

Yep.....I made all of Ricardo's food from scratch as a baby.

Froze them in ice cube trays, packaged them up and then let them thaw as needed.

Now, what happened to my fruit/veggie eating baby? All he wants is JUNK!

Thank you as ever for your help - I've spent another afternoon pureeing pears, parsnips, courgettes and a swede - urgh!!!  Can't think of eating anything worse myself!
