any food/drinks to avoid when breastfeeding?
« on: January 03, 2006, 00:31:26 am »
Ok so I asked the question awhile back of what is good to eat for breastfeeding, but now I'm wondering if there's anything to avoid.  I know there are certain things that might upset little one's tummy and that those are more found by experiment.  What I'm really asking is whether there's anything that can hurt supply or anything like that...  Just curious.  TIA

Anything that can dehydrate you is good to avoid- so caffeine.   In the early months I would have only one cup of coffee and then drink extra water. When I got past 6 months I became more relaxed about it.

My doc also told me not to eat peanuts or honey while nursing and you need to be careful with some medicines and herbal supplements.

My health visitor told me that a baby can't get used to the flavour of vinegar.
