When and how to drop 4th feed?
« on: January 04, 2006, 09:06:53 am »
Hi

Just looking for some advice on dropping back to 3 milk feeds per day.

My 8 1/2 mo ds currently has a feeding schedule as follows:

6.30am BF

7am Breakfast

10.30 BF/snack

12noon Lunch

2.30pm B/F

4.30pm Dinner

6pm Formula/Bed

I am wondering when or even if I look at dropping one of the B/F's. DS really seems happy enough with the above schedule, has taken to solids really well so I am thinking I just keep going with this.

Not really sure how to go about cutting back to 3 feeds.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cas

Hi

I would drop the b/f wkith the snack and give him a cup if he takes to them with coiled boiled water or pure fruit juice diluted down with boiled water.

I hope this is useful and good luck on droping one of the b/f

Most babies will/should stay on 4 feeds until 10-11 months. Then it is fine to encourage them to drop a feed, if you are wanting to and they aren't doing it on their own. It's important that breastmilk or formula be the majority of their nutrition until at least 12 months old.

Hi

Ok, thanks for replies.

I feel comfortable about keeping up with the 4 feeds, just wanted some reassurance. When I and DS are ready I will try to drop the am feed with snack as suggested and change to cup (which he is having with each solid feed).

Thanks again for the advice.
