When to start applying the "No nap after 3pm" rule
« on: January 04, 2006, 21:54:06 pm »
Hello!
Just wondering... does anyone know when it is wise to start ditching the zzz after 3 pm... it has worked wonders on our now 3 yr. old but now  have a 10 m. old who could benefit from it too... is it too soon?? (he generally naps at 10 am for about 1.5 hours but then is tired around 3 or 4... but then, bedtime is pushed later...)

Thanks
HUGS

When to apply it?  When it starts to cause a problem w/ bed time - sorry not being checky but my lo is 16 mos and she can sleep until 5pm and still go to bed at 7.30-8.00..so every lo is different.

Are you on 1 nap or 2?

I know a lot of moms, myself included, whose lo's sleep as late as 4:30 (even 5:30 the other day  ) and they can still make a 7:30 bedtime.  So like Michelle said, as long as it doesn't cause a major refusal at bedtime, then you should be fine.

DD takes her 2nd nap from 3-4:30pm, sometimes 5pm.  Her bedtime is 7:30 - 8pm.  I watch the clock with her & have been for months.  She stays up for 3 hours at a time so 3 hours from her last wake-up she's down for a nap or the night.  Works like a charm.  Makes life so much easier than waiting for her sleep cues which can take awhile to show up.

Thanks for your replies. My dd was like a clock too. She was up for 3 hours exactly and took that afternoon nap as well up until 14 or 15 months... But this little guy is more of a Spirited nature, so he seems to refuse naps now, for exploring purposes... But I guess BW is about recognizing baby´s needs individually, so yesterday I put him down for his pm nap and then he fell asleep at 7:30 so he definetly needs it...

Thanks ladies!

PS What does "checky" mean :?:
