when to unswaddle
« on: January 05, 2006, 02:13:54 am »
My lo is 4mth and has been sucking her fingers for a while now.  She wakes up in the night crying when she becomes unswaddled and sucking her fingers!  I thought she might make a natural transition to sleeping unswaddled.

Do I wait for her to do it or am I suppose to slowly unswaddle her?

I have been struggling with this very same thing! I have a couple of posts on this same topic. I was using the miracle blanket which my son HATED, so I decided it was time to wean him from it. However, I couldnt find a gradually method as he is not quite ready to be without it. I just tried the aussie swaddle again (the first time I chickened out), and he fell asleep  I decided I would try again on a day he had good sleep and on a cat nap. I worked! you should try it!

I have a question about the Aussie swaddle.  In the diagram it looks like their arms are up near their head.  If that is so my little one would most definately try to suck her hands (through the blanket) and get very mad.  Is my daughter the only one or do I misunderstand the Aussie way?

the way i understand it there is just one version of the aussie swaddle where their hands are by their heads.  ironically enough, most moms who post that say that the benefit was that their babies could then suck their hands the way they wanted! ???  :?
