Is there any food my almost 1 year old cannot have?
« on: January 05, 2006, 19:47:01 pm »
My daughter is almost 1 and I am wondering if there are any foods she cannot have or should have very little of? Especially thinking about ingredients in baking, like bicarb of soda, flour etc.  Its just that some recipes I have noticed are only suitable for over 1 and I can't particularly figure out why.  What about ice cream too? Any advice much appreciated.

depends on where you live what guidelines seem to bein place

here i have been told we hold off on strawberries and honey until over a year, peanut butter is delayed here (1-2 yrs usually), soft cheeses (like brie etc) otherwise i believe 1 yr old is th emagic age for most other ingredients.

ice cream is technically fine and the kind you choose is up to you - i know people who give it to a 9 mo old and others (like me) who held off a lot longer (18 mo for dd1) because of the high sugar content.

Hi.  According to our ped, a 1 yr old can pretty much eat anything, aside from any known allergens or peanut butter if there is a history of allergy or for extra caution.   :)

I've been told anything but honey (and the obvious allergy things if you've a family history). Does seem to depend on where you live!

Thanks guys, that's really helpful. Maybe I can start baking a bit more, at least I can stop checking almost everything I buy.
