Feeding on the go
« on: January 06, 2006, 09:44:52 am »
I have recently started to move from breast to bottle feeding and have a question about feeding while out and about.
It says on the formula that feeds should be used within an hour of being made up, unless refrigerated straight away. How do people go about feeding when out and about if your LO needs feeding longer than an hour from the feed being made up?

they make formula containers that have sections and hold powdered formula enough for 3 feeds. you put the cooled water in the bottle and keep the powder separate and mix when ready to feed  :D

Hi Hun

Mothercare sell the formula dividers - I couldn't have lived without mine, it was a Godsend.

Here's a link so you know what to look out for.

Thank you so much - I'll be going to get one tomorrow. As I've been breastfeeding it's been so easy when we are out and now moving to a bottle has given me so much more to think about.

My dd was exlusively  bottle feed so I never had the portability of BFing so didn't miss it.

The one tip I would give is if you can get your lo used to having room temperature bottles rather than warm that makes it sooo much easier. You just make up all the bottles with just water in the morning (they keep just fine  for 24 hours - no need for the fridge) and then just empty the formula from the divider into the bottle when you're ready for it.

If you use room temp water though make sure you swirl the bottle around a bit when you add the formula before you shake it up and down or all the formula gets clogged in the teat and it's a b***h to get out!
