bottle rejection
« on: January 06, 2006, 19:23:35 pm »
Hi everyone!  I'm new to this forum and I'm really hoping that people can help me.  My son is 6 months old and I want to wean him.  However, he WILL NOT take a bottle.  We've tried breastmilk, formula and water in the bottle.  We have bought about 5 different types of bottles and different nipple flows.  My husband tries to feed him in a room where I am not in sight.  My son just wants to either bite the nipple or turn his head away entirely.  It's so frustrating!  I really don't want to go cold turkey.  I asked the doctor about it at his 6 month checkup and the doctor said when he gets hungry, he'll eat.  My son does eat solid food so I'm thinking it's going to take a long time before he gets hungry.  Any advice?  Thanks!

I agree with your doctor.  Let him get good and hungry- then you leave the house (but take a cell phone - or maybe just go outside if that's possible.)  The idea is for you to be nowhere in sight- or smell- so that your lo knows he's got to take the bottle.
That's great that you have a DH who is willing to work through this with you- that's a hard one on everybody.
Also... have you tried the breastfeeding forum?  There's a sticky there that talks about this topic.

Hi, Angie!!!

I had tons of trouble with my daughter taking the bottle and finally in total desperation tried the Haberman and lo-and-behold.......it worked!!!  She is still using, but I had tried everything and this was finally what worked.  It was worth every cent, I highly recommend trying it.  BTW, I'm from Mansfield!

Thanks for all the advice.  I ended up buying the breast bottle from adiri.com and it worked great.  He takes it without any trouble.  I actually bought another one yesterday!
