Order of feeding for solids?
« on: January 07, 2006, 16:29:02 pm »
What works best when introducing solids?  Cereal first and then let her have whatever she wants of the bottle?  Or Bottle and then an hour later sdo cereal...I feel like I would be feeding her all the time if I did that....when would she ever have 3 actual meals?

Thanks for your tips/insight!

Well, it depends on your baby!

My pediatrician recommended giving the bottle last, becaues this is how we, as adults, usually eat (food then drink) BUT I have to feed my son his bottle first and then his food (shortly after) because if I gave him his food first, he isn't interested in his bottle. Evenings are different though - Sometimes during his dinner, I have to feed him his bottle in between the food (every few bites) OR after his food because if I gave him his bottle first he would fall asleep!

The whole meal (bottle then food) usually takes anywhere from 30 min to an hour.

It's really up to you and your LO. Personally, I always did breast/bottle first to make sure Tyler filled up on the good stuff, then we did solids about 1 hr later. It did feel like all we were doing was eating, but it didn't last forever! It's important that your DD keeps her formula intake up, since that should be her main source of nutrition until you introduce whole milk at 1 yr. Whatever works best for you and her is the way to go!
