What are your toddler's favourite books?
« on: January 08, 2006, 18:39:39 pm »
I was playing around on another website (No prizes for guessing which one) and thinking about Sam's favourite books. I though it might be fun if we share which books are our family favourites - and which ones you can stand to read for the 15th time in one day!
1. Here are our favourites:
  Everyone Hide From Wibbly Pig
by Mick Inkpen (Illustrator)
such a cute character. the little board books are great for the nappy bag.

2.    The Very Hungry Caterpillar [Board Book]
by Eric Carle

3.    As Big as a Pig
by Ailie Busby
Board book
a very simple book with a lovely message.

4.    Slinky Malinki
by Lynley Dodd

5.    Choo Choo Clickety Clack
by Margaret Mayo
Paperback

6.    Monkey Puzzle
by Julia Donaldson, et al

7.    Pass the Jam, Jim (Mini Treasure S.)
by Kaye Umansky, Margaret Chamberlain (Illustrator)

8.    Over in the Meadow (A Cheshire Studio Book)
by Olive A. Wadsworth, Anna Vojtech (Illustrator)

9.    Busy Dog (Farm Sound Board Books)
by Russell Julian (Illustrator)

10.    There's a Cow in the Cabbage Patch
by Stella Blackstone, Clare Beaton (Illustrator)

11.    I Took the Moon for a Walk
by Carolyn Curtis, Alison Jay (Illustrator)

12.    Where's Rusty? (Farmyard Tales Bath Books)
by Heather Amery, Stephen Cartwright (Illustrator)

13.    Maisy Goes to Bed (Maisy S.)
by Lucy Cousins (Illustrator)

14.    Wacky Weather
by Dr. Seuss (Illustrator)

15.    Baby Moves
by Sandra Lousada

16.    Big Red Bath
by Julia Jarman, Adrian Reynolds (Illustrator)
This should be made into a bath book if there is justice in the world.

17.    Dear Zoo
by Rod Campbell
the pop-up version

18.    Elmer's Hide-and-seek (Elmer's Lift the Flap Books)
by David McKee

19.    Kiss Good Night Sam
by Amy Hest

20.    Doggies : A Counting and Barking Book
by Sandra Boynton

Wow, you've got a good list there - and a book worm already! Fraser likes a similar selection of books particularly Monkey Puzzle (along with the classic Thomas stories).

One I would add to the list is:
The Gruffalo
by Julia Donaldson

Story time in our house isn't complete without about 6 books before bed so there are plenty here to choose from. I'm not at home so you'll have to forgive me if I can't remember some of the authors! Some of Gracie's faves are:

Room on the Broom - Julia Donaldson

The Gruffalo - Julia Donaldson

Monkey Puzzle - Julia Donaldson

A squash and a Squeeze - Julia Donaldson

The smartest giant in town - Julia Donaldson

Have you seen the Crocodile? - Colin West

Pardon? Said the Giraffe - Colin West

Not me said the Moneky - Colin West

Hello Great big bull frog - Colin West

Dear Zoo - Rod Campbell

Green Eggs and Ham  - Dr Suess

But excuse me that is my book (Charlie and Lola) - Lauren Child

I will not eve NEVER eat a tomato (Charlie and Lola) - Lauren Child

The Animal Train - Chris Wormell

The Biggest Bear - Adam Relf

Each Peach Pear Plum - Janet and Alan Ahlberg

Okay, so I cheated and looking on Amazon for the authors I couldn't remember ;)

I'm always on the look out for new books though so I'd love to hear any recommendations.

love

Marie

Pretty much all of the above plus one called 'My Mum and Dad make me Laugh'.  And his box set of 30 Thomas books which at least avoids some of the repitition for me!

All the books mentioned above are great!  Emma's favorite book, that I have to read to her EVERY DAY is "Miss Spider's Tea Party- A counting Book" by David Kirk.  This book is almost like a lovie for her!  She carries it around and even tries to take it to bath.  She has a few other faves like "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carl and a few of the Corduroy books.  But Miss Spider wins for her hands down!

Good Night Moon, don't know the author.

It's literally the only book he'll let us read to him right now, and he always "reads" it back to us!

hairy maclary from donaldsons dairy by lynley dodd

the very first words...  "out of the gate..."  will stop tears, a wriggly bum on the changing table, a grumpy clothing change, and bring a smile of recognition as he waits for the rest.
