Toddler bedtime routine
« on: January 13, 2006, 09:53:35 am »
Hello

Ds is 16mths and bedtime routine has always been the same.

7pm tidy up toys
walk upstairs singing our bedtime song
bath
milk in sippy whilst cuddling for 5 - 10mins
placed in cot awake but chilled out
asleep within 5 - 15mins

Dh thinks the cuddling is a bad habit and thinks i should place ds straight in the cot

I'm just wondering what everyones bedtime routine is like?

Thanks

I don't think the  cuddling is a bad habit at all. It is a wonderful bonding experience and relaxing for your LO.  Our bedtime routine has evolved as John has gotten older. But I think that it was very similar at 16 months with one exception. We included stories during cuddle time.

I am wondering if your DH is included in the bedtime routine.  If not an idea would be to let him read the stories or cuddle your LO while you read.

Second the perevious post - who doesn't want to be cuddled before they go to sleep, KWIM  :) !! Around 16 mos I introduced story time to both mine, whilst having their milk - it really works for us.

As the PP said - maybe DH should get involved in the bedtime routine, read some books, have a cuddle, and then he'll realise it's one of the most precious times of the day - quite often now Jack reaches for his cot and I'm thinking - hang on a minute buddy, I want MORE cuddles!!!!

Sounds like you've got it sorted to me!!
